Don't Worry if you are laid off !!

Seven Careers To Pursue If You've Been Laid Off

Careers For Laid-Off Workers

Laid off this year? Get your life back on track with one of these seven careers.

By Andrea Duchon
If you're one of the unlucky ones who's recently been laid off, you're not alone. In fact, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, in May 2013, 127,821 workers were let go in a mass layoff.
That's an astounding number and a scary reality. Plus, even if you have a solid savings account, the uncertainty of not knowing what's around the corner or where your next paycheck will come from is enough to make anyone skittish about jumping into a new, unknown career.
And while you're unemployed and wondering what your next career move may be, taking the time to weigh your options now can go a long way in ensuring future stability.
"By taking time to look at the available options across different industries, you can start to make smarter career decisions across the board," says Karen Galli, a career consultant and president of One Leadership Group, a company dedicated to helping individuals develop professionally and personally. "Finding out which careers are growing in the upcoming years puts you in a good position to secure a job and hold onto it."
Ready to learn about seven booming careers you should consider when you jump back into the job search? Keep reading.

Career #1: Elementary School Teacher

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 17 percent, or 248,800 new jobs*
Teachers are the heart of the educational system, so it's no surprise that the profession is growing, particularly at the elementary level. Planning lessons, grading students' assignments, and communicating with parents about their child's progress are all typical duties of elementary school teachers, says the U.S. Department of Labor.
Why It's Stable: "It looks like this career is bouncing back stronger than ever due to an increased focus on quality teachers and the student-teacher ratio in the classroom," says Steve Langerud, a veteran workplace consultant, career coach, and co-author of an award-winning guide to career planning.
And the good news, he says, is that more schools are looking to hire older employees, which works in favor of those who have been laid off and want to re-enter the workforce.
Preparing For Your Comeback: A bachelor's degree in elementary education and a state-issued license or certification is required for public school teachers, according to the Department of Labor. They also report that some states require teachers to major in a specific content subject, or require teachers to earn a master's degree after receiving their teaching certificate.

Career #2: Accountant

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 16 percent, or 190,700 new jobs*
Tax season isn't the only time of year accountants are put to work - they're needed all year long, and the profession is growing at a steady clip. Accountants spend much of their time examining financial statements to ensure that they're accurate, organizing and maintaining financial records, and suggesting ways to reduce costs, enhance revenues, and improve profits, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Why It's Stable: "Every organization needs an accountant, and after 2008, many businesses realized the importance of having a good one," Langerud says. "Now that budgets are back up, this is a field that's growing steadily with no signs of slowing down," he adds.
Preparing For Your Comeback: According to the Department of Labor, most accountants need at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. They also report that some employers may prefer to hire those with a master's degree in accounting or business administration with a concentration in accounting.

Career #3: Registered Nurse

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 26 percent, or 711,900 new jobs*
Before you meet with a doctor at a medical facility, you'll often interact with a registered nurse first. That's because nurses do everything from coordinating patient care to recording medical histories and then consulting with doctors, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Why It's Stable: Galli says there is a significant need for RNs, particularly with the health care reform beginning in 2014.
"Every American will be required to have health insurance, which will directly impact the health care industry," she notes. In fact, there is already a shortage in the field, so nurses are currently working long hours to compensate, says Galli.
She also adds that since the median age of a registered nurse is 46, there shouldn't be any concern about being the older, second-career worker or the newbie who is re-entering the workforce.
Preparing For Your Comeback: There are a few ways to pursue a career as a registered nurse, according to the Department of Labor. Registered nurses can either earn a bachelor's of science degree in nursing, an associate's degree in nursing, or a diploma from an approved nursing program. Regardless of which path you choose to take, the Department notes that all registered nurses must also be licensed.

Career #4: Software Developer

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 30 percent, or 270,900 new jobs*
If you've interacted with a computer, you've also interacted with a software program. But have you ever wondered who created the software in the first place? Software developers, that's who. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, they are the creative minds behind computer programs, analyzing user needs, designing programs and apps, and then testing and developing software to match current needs.
Why It's Stable: "From iPad apps to Android phones, not to mention tablets along with PCs and Macbooks, software developers are always in demand," Galli says. "This could be a sweet career for someone who has always been interested in software developing on some level, or someone who doesn't mind going back to school or digging their heels into practical learning and training."
Preparing For Your Comeback: Usually, these professionals have a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, as well as strong computer programming skills, according to the Department of Labor.

Career #5: Medical Records and Health Information Technician

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 21 percent, or 37,700 new jobs*
If you're highly-organized and want to apply your skills to the booming health care industry, you might want to think about a career as a medical records and health information technician. In this role, you might organize and maintain data for clinical databases and registries, review patient records for accuracy, and protect patients' health info for confidentiality, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Why It's Stable: "This profession requires very little schooling, which is attractive to those who have been laid off in another field and don't want to spend years earning a new degree," notes Ben Yeargin, a corporate recruiter for Craig Technologies, a small recruiting services firm headquartered in Florida.
"Plus, our aging population ensures that the health care field will continue to grow and provide great job stability - another boon if you've been laid off in the past," he says.
Preparing For Your Comeback: Typically you'll need a postsecondary certificate to pursue a career as a medical records and health information technician, notes the Department of Labor. However, some of these professionals may have an associate's degree. They also say that many employers require professional certification.

Career #6: Management Analyst

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 22 percent, or 157,200 new jobs*
If you have business savvy and a talent for initiating change, a growing career as a management analyst could be right for you. The U.S. Department of Labor says that these professionals are responsible for proposing ways to improve an organization's efficiency. That includes things like gathering and organizing information about problems, and then developing solutions or alternative practices to a problem.
Why It's Stable: Galli says that the main function of a management analyst is to affirm, re-think, and often times reorganize the management team and their roles - in effect, make them run more efficiently. And since "[e]very company is looking for ways to cut costs and put money back into the bread and butter of their business," it's no surprise that these professionals are in demand.
Preparing For Your Comeback: Most of these workers have at least a bachelor's degree, according to the Department of Labor. Common areas of study include business, management, accounting, marketing, computer and information science, engineering, economics, and statistics. However, the Department also notes that some employers prefer to hire those with a master's degree in business administration.

Career #7: Market Research Analyst

2010 to 2020 Projected Growth: 41 percent, or 116,600 new jobs*
If you've ever answered a survey about a service or product you recently used, then you've probably helped a market research analyst do their job. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, these men and women monitor and forecast marketing and sales trends, devise methods for collecting data in the form of surveys or questionnaires, and gather data about consumers, competitors, and market conditions.
Why It's Stable: Langerud boils it down like this: “People who can get to the heart of why we do what we do as consumers of goods and services are a necessary tool for success.” He says that finding skilled professionals who can get to the data, assemble it into a cohesive package, and then tell people what it means is a challenge. So, it's no surprise that market research analysts are in demand.
Preparing For Your Comeback: Typically, market researchers need a bachelor's degree in market research or a related field, reports the Department of Labor. However, many get their degree in a field like statistics, math, or computer science. Other analysts may have a background in business administration, communications, or one of the social sciences.

Facebook's New House !!!

Mark Zuckerberg and friend in Noe Valley (Tim Williamson)
Mark Zuckerberg just made an unusual purchase.
Well, four purchases.
Facebook's billionaire founder bought four homes surrounding his current home near Palo Alto, Mercury News reports. The houses cost him more than $30 million, including one 2,600 square-foot home that cost $14 million.  (His own home is twice as large at 5,000 square-feet and cost half as much.)
Larry Page made a similar move a few years ago so he could build a 6,000-square-foot mansion. But Zuckerberg's reason is different. He doesn't want to live in excess, he just wants a little privacy.
Zuckerberg reportedly took action after he learned that a developer wanted to purchase one of his neighbor's homes and use the fact that Zuckerberg lived close by as a marketing tactic. He started purchasing the homes last December. Zuckerberg will lease the four homes he just bought back to its current residents.
It's sad yet ironic that Zuckerberg has to go through great lengths to protect his privacy. Yesterday news broke that Facebook was removing yet another privacy feature. Soon, even people who wish to remain hidden from Facebook searches will have no choice but to be searchable on the social network.

Toyota Auto Pilot Cars

Tokyo (AFP) - Toyota on Friday unveiled the next generation of cars featuring an auto pilot system that will swerve to avoid collisions and also keep to the middle of the road, all without drivers touching the wheel.
The Japanese giant autos using the self-driving technology could be available on the market in just a few years' time.
"These advanced driving support technologies prevent human errors, reduce driving stress and help drivers avert accidents, which has a big potential to reduce the number of traffic deaths," Toyota managing director Moritaka Yoshida said at a presentation in Tokyo.
Leading automakers and technology firms, including Toyota, rival Nissan and Internet giant Google, have been working on self-driving and assisted-driving technology for years.
Toyota, the world's biggest automaker, said that while drivers would still need to be alert and take part in the driving process, it essentially lets them put the vehicle on auto-pilot, leaving most of the work to the computer system.
The Automated Highway Driving Assist (AHDA) system lets vehicles communicate wirelessly to avoid running into each other while keeping the car in the middle of the road lane -- no matter how many twists and turns lie ahead.
"Cars with these technologies recognise the accelerating or slowing speed of those ahead, which also helps avoid traffic jams," said project manager Mitsuhisa Shida. "They can wirelessly exchange data once every 0.1 seconds."
The company plans to install AHDA in its commercial models over the next few years.
Toyota has already introduced the pre-collision braking assist system in its Lexus luxury sedan and plans to install it in other models by 2015, with the other technologies to follow.
Many cars already have systems that gives drivers a panoramic view to keep watch for nearby objects while parking itself.
The latest collision-avoidance system has doubled the detection time of oncoming objects to four seconds from a previous two seconds, Toyota added.
The automaker said such advances would be especially helpful for older people. Japan's society is rapidly ageing with over-65s already making up around a quarter of the 128 million-strong population.

Foolish captain of the Italian ship

, Italy (Reuters) - The captain of the doomed Costa Concordia lost "a precious hour" in evacuating the giant cruise ship when it ran aground and capsized on January 13, possibly costing dozens of lives, a senior Italian maritime security official said on Thursday.

Captain Francesco Schettino is blamed for causing the accident by steering the vessel too close to shore and is accused of multiple manslaughter and abandoning ship before the evacuation of more than 4,200 passengers and crew was complete.

At least 16 people died and another 16 are still missing after the 290-metre long ship struck a rock close to the Tuscan island of Giglio, tearing a gash in its hull which let water pour into the engine rooms.

Passengers have complained that the evacuation was chaotic and uncontrolled, with some left waiting in lifeboats for two hours before being able to leave the ship.

Several of the bodies were found by divers in submerged evacuation assembly points, wearing life vests.

"If you consider that there were 4,200 people on board, you could say things went well, but if the captain hadn't wasted a precious hour, it would have been comfortable," Marco Brusco, head of the port captain's service, a maritime authority, told a Senate committee hearing.

"The lifeboats could have been launched calmly, people could have been reassured. Instead of that, the first hour was lost, people were working under stress, he (Schettino) left and there were contradictory orders," he said.

Schettino is under house arrest near Naples. His lawyer has said he is ready to accept his share of responsibility for the accident but says that the ship's owner Costa Cruises was closely involved in the evacuation.

Italian media have speculated that the investigation into the case could be extended to include other Costa officials but there was no confirmation from state prosecutor Francesco Verusio, who inspected the site of the accident on Thursday.

"At this point, there are no others under investigation," he told reporters.

Almost two weeks after the accident, officials have given up hope of finding anyone alive on the ship, which lies half-submerged in about 20 metres of water in a marine reserve.

Salvage crews are preparing to pump more than 2,300 tonnes of diesel from the Concordia's 17 fuel tanks with work expected to start by Saturday to prevent an environmental disaster.

Lawyers are preparing to launch damage claims against Costa, a unit of the world's largest cruise ship operator, Carnival Corp.

Consumer protection association Codacons has declared itself a civil party in the case and has invited passengers to join an international class action against the company, aiming to win at least 125,000 euros compensation for each passenger.

Sheen Booed Off Stage During First Live Show

Troubled US actor Charlie Sheen was heckled, booed and eventually abandoned by the crowd in a chaotic start to a live show mini-tour - a month after being sacked from his hit TV show.Skip related content
Sheen kicked off the My Violent Torpedo Of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option tour in Detroit on Saturday.
The former Two And A Half Men star had initially been greeted with rapturous applause from the 5,000 strong-audience, but fans reportedly began to walk out within 15 minutes.
"It was the worst thing I've ever seen in my entire life - the show was horrible." said audience member Jennifer Pyryt.
The show, to a packed house of 5,000 people, had started well with a spoof involving news clips of the actor's recent outbursts, and high-action excerpts from classic movies including Apocalypse Now, starring his father, Martin.
He later told the crowd the show was "an experiment", adding: "You paid your hard-earned money without knowing what this show was about."
After commenting several times on the fact that he was being booed, and getting increasingly tetchy as the stream of people walking out grew, Sheen said he would take a break while a video of a new Snoop Dogg track was played.
When the video finished, the lights came up, and it was clear that Sheen was not coming back on stage.
Fans walked out chanting "Refund!" and were quick to express their disappointment outside.
"I don't think it was put together very well," added Mary, 41, saying things were not helped when the unpredictable Sheen tried to make a joke about Detroit's reputation.
"If he had not mentioned Detroit as a crack town, or the stealing of cars .. he turned a lot of people off," she said.
Sheen was sacked last month from the hit TV series Two And A Half Men after criticising its producers in a series of rambling media outbursts which Warner Brothers called "dangerously self-destructive conduct."
The 45-year-old then became an Internet sensation after launching a Twitter feed which now has 3.4 million followers, and an online webstreamed show, Sheen's Korner.
At the same time he announced his plans for the live tour, which now has more than 20 scheduled dates over the next month, after tickets for the first gigs sold out within 18 minutes.
Sheen's next show is due on Sunday evening in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Charlie's father Martin Sheen has described his troubled son Charlie's struggle with addiction as a disease "as dangerous as cancer".
"Charlie is dealing with the most profound problems and addiction - there's no secret, his behaviour has been an example of that," the 70-year-old actor told BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.
He added: "It's a rollercoaster ride that's been going on for some time. So we deal with it, every day."

Mini Biography
American superstar Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on August 29, 1958, and entertained audiences nearly his entire life. His father,Joe Jackson, had been a guitarist but was forced to give up his musical ambitions following his marriage to Katherine (Scruse). Together they prodded their growing family's musical interests at home. By the early 1960s, the older boys Jackie, Tito and Jermaine had begun performing around the city; by 1964, Michael and Marlon had joined in.

A musical prodigy, Michael's singing and dancing talents were amazingly mature, and he soon became the dominant voice and focus of TheJackson 5. An opening act for such soul groups as the O-Jays and James Brown, it was Gladys Knight (not Diana Ross) who officially brought the group to Berry Gordy's attention, and by 1969, the boys were producing back-to-back chart-busting hits as Motown artists ("I Want You Back," "ABC," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "Got to Be There," etc.). As a product of the 1970s, the boys emerged as one of the most accomplished black pop/soul vocal groups in music history, successfully evolving from a group like The Temptations to a disco phenomenon.

Solo success for Michael was inevitable, and by the 1980s, he had become infinitely more popular than his brotherly group. Record sales consistently orbited, culminating in the biggest-selling album of all time, "Thriller" in 1982. A TV natural, he ventured rather uneasily into films, such as playing the Scarecrow in The Wiz (1978), but had much better luck with elaborate music videos.

In the 1990s, the downside as an 1980s pop phenomenon began to rear itself. Michael grew terribly child-like and introverted by his peerless celebrity. A rather timorous, androgynous figure to begin with, his physical appearance began to change drastically, and his behavior grew alarmingly bizarre, making him a consistent target for scandal-making, despite his numerous charitable acts. Two brief marriages -- one to Elvis Presley's daughter Lisa Marie Presley -- were forged and two children produced by his second wife during that time, but the purposes behind them appeared image-oriented. Despite it all, Michael Jackson's passion and artistry as a singer, dancer, writer and businessman are unparalleled, and it is these prodigious talents that will ultimately prevail over the extremely negative aspects of his seriously troubled adult life.

For it all to end on June 25, 2009, with his sudden death at age 50 of a drug-induced cardiac arrest, just as he was coming out of a four-year reclusive period and rehearsing for a sold-out London concert "comeback" in July, seems uncommonly cruel and tragic. Millions upon millions of dedicated fans will remember where they were "the day Michael died".

In a move named by Jackson's advisers as "refinancing," it was announced in April 2006 that Jackson had struck a deal with Sony and Fortress investments. In the deal Sony may be allowed to take control of half of Jackson's 50% stake in Sony/ ATV Music Publishing (worth an estimated $1 billion) which Jackson co-owns. Jackson would be left with 25% of the catalog, with the rest belonging to Sony. In exchange, Sony negotiated with a loans company on behalf of Jackson. Jackson's $200m in loans were due in December 2005 and were secured on the catalog. Jackson failed to pay and the Bank of America sold them to Fortress investments, a company dealing in distressed loans. However, Jackson hasn't as yet sold any of the remainder of his stake. The possible purchase by Sony of 25% of Sony/ATV Music Publishing is a conditional option; it is assumed the singer will try to avoid having to sell part of the catalog of songs including material by other artists such as 'Bob Dylan' and Destiny's Child. As another part of the deal Jackson was given a new $300 million loan, and a lower interest rate on the old loan to match the original Bank of America rate. When the loan was sold to Fortress investments they increased the interest rate to 20%.

Personal Quotes
I can't think of a better way to spread the message of world peace than by working with the NFL and being part of Super Bowl XXVII.
I don't like pop music.
I'll always be Peter Pan in my heart.
People think they know me, but they don't. Not really. Actually, I am one of the loneliest people on this earth. I cry sometimes, because it hurts. It does. To be honest, I guess you could say that it hurts to be me.
"Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on a TV screen doesn't make it factual. To buy it is to feed it." - about tabloid magazines.
I made a terrible mistake. I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children.
"You ain't seen nothing yet, and the best is yet to come." (1999)
There is a lot of sadness in my past life. My father beat me. It was difficult to take being beaten and then going on stage. He was strict; very hard and stern.
Elizabeth Taylor used to feed me, to hand-feed me, at times. Please, I don't want anybody to think I'm starving, I'm not. My health is perfect, actually.
I just want to say to fans in every corner of the earth, every nationality, every race, every language: I love you from the bottom of my heart. I would love your prayers and your goodwill, and please be patient and be with me and believe in me because I am completely, completely innocent. But please know a lot of conspiracy is going on as we speak.
"Marlon Brando has been pushing. He's a wonderful man. He's a god. He wants a lot of money. He wants to get things done right now." - On a video about acting which he was planning to make with Brando in 2001
Elizabeth Taylor is a warm cuddly blanket that I love to snuggle up to and cover myself with. I can confide in her and trust her. She's Mother TeresaPrincess Diana, the Queen of England, and Wendy.
I trusted Martin Bashir to come into my life and that of my family because I wanted the truth to be told. Martin Bashir persuaded me to trust him that his would be an honest and fair portrayal of my life and told me that he was the man that turned Diana's life around. I am surprised that a professional journalist would compromise his integrity by deceiving me in this way. Today I feel more betrayed than perhaps ever before; that someone, who had got to know my children, my staff and me, whom I let into my heart and told the truth, could then sacrifice the trust I placed in him and produce this terrible and unfair programme. Everyone who knows me will know the truth which is that my children come first in my life and that I would never harm any child. I also want to thank my fans around the world for the overwhelming number of messages of support that I have received, particularly from Great Britain, where people have e-mailed me and said how appalled they were by the Bashir film. Their love and support has touched me greatly.
I was coming out of the shower and I fell and all my body weight - I'm pretty fragile - all my body weight fell against my rib cage. And I bruised my lung very badly.
I love my children. I was holding my son tight. Why would I throw a baby off the balcony? That's the dumbest, stupidest story I ever heard.
I think that it's demeaning and disrespectful but I also want to make it clear it's not just about me but a pattern of disrespect that he has shown to our community. He needs to stop it and he needs to stop it now." - On Eminem's video for "Just Lose It
I have spent my entire life helping millions of children across the world. I would never harm a child. It is unfortunate that some individuals have seen fit to come forward and make a complaint that is completely false. Years ago, I settled with certain individuals because I was concerned about my family and the media scrutiny that would have ensued if I fought the matter in court. These people wanted to exploit my concern for children by threatening to destroy what I believe in and what I do. I have been a vulnerable target for those who want money.
I am always writing a potpourri of music. I want to give the world escapism through the wonder of great music and to reach the masses.
I'm a visionary and a creative person. God blessed me with certain talents. I hate to use an analogy, but Walt Disney was creative but not good with business. His brother Roy handled the books. He loved creating family-oriented entertainment and so do I. I feel that was a gift and I have that gift also. I'm very honored to have been chosen.
"When I saw him move I was mesmerized. I've never seen a performer perform like James Brown and right then and there I knew that that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Success definitely brings on loneliness. People think you're lucky, that you have everything. They think you can go anywhere and do anything, but that's not the point. One hungers for the basic stuff.
My father was a management genius. But what I really wanted was a dad.
I've been in the entertainment industry since I was six-years-old ... As Charles Dickens says, 'It's been the best of times, the worst of times.' But I would not change my career ... While some have made deliberate attempts to hurt me, I take it in stride because I have a loving family, a strong faith and wonderful friends and fans who have, and continue, to support me. (2007)
[on his career] It all went by so fast, didn't it? I wish I could do it all over again, I really do.
[on refuting persistent rumors of skin surgery or bleaching] If I had a chance to talk to Michelangelo, I would ask him what inspired him to become who he is, the anatomy of his craftsmanship, not about who he dated last night or why he decided to sit out in the sun so long.
When I was 16, we were doing Las Vegas every night, and Elvis Presley and Sammy Davis Jr. would sit me and my brothers in a row and lecture us. 'Don't ever do drugs,' they told us. I never forgot it.
Music has been my outlet, my gift to all of the lovers in this world. Through it, my music, I know I will live forever.
You have to have that tragedy, that pain to pull from. That's what makes a clown great. You can see he's hurting behind the masquerade. He's something else externally. Charles Chaplin did that so beautifully, better than anyone. I can play off those moments, too. I've been through the fire many times.
I never had the chance to do the fun things kids do: sleepovers, parties, trick-or-treat. There was no Christmas, no holiday celebrating. So now you try to compensate for some of that loss.
My father is a much nicer person now. I think he realizes his children are everything. Without your family, you have nothing. He's a nice human being. At one time, we'd be horrified if he just showed up. We were scared to death. He turned out really well. I wish it wasn't so late.
I'm still fascinated by clouds and the sunset. I was making wishes on the rainbow yesterday. I saw the meteor shower. I made a wish every time I saw a shooting star.
I have confidence in my abilities. I have real perseverance. Nothing can stop me when I put my mind to it.
I never think about themes. I let the music create itself. I like it to be a potpourri of all kinds of sounds, all kinds of colors, something for everybody, from the farmer in Ireland to the lady who scrubs toilets in Harlem.
I've had people come to me, and after meeting me, they start crying. I say, "Why are you crying?" They say, "Because I thought you would be stuck up, but you're the nicest person." I say, "Who gave you this judgment?" They tell me they read it. I tell them, "Don't you believe what you read."
When I'm on stage, it's like a two-hour marathon. I weigh myself before and after each show, and I lose a good 10 pounds. Sweat is all over the stage. Then you get to your hotel and your adrenaline is at its zenith and you can't fall asleep. And you've got a show the next day. It's tough.
[on calling himself the 'King of Pop'] I never self-proclaimed myself to be anything. If I called up Elizabeth Taylor right now, she would tell you that she coined the phrase. She was introducing me, I think at the American Music Awards, and said in her own words - it wasn't in the script - "I'm a personal fan, and in my opinion he is the king of pop, rock and soul." Then the press started saying "King of Pop" and the fans started. This self-proclaimed garbage, I don't know who said that.
I sit in my room at home and sometimes cry. It's so hard to make friends. Sometimes I walk around the neighbourhood at night, just hoping to find someone to talk to. But I just end up coming home.
[on being asked what he thought his funeral would be like in 2002] It's going to be the greatest show on Earth. That's what I want. Fireworks and everything.
[on recording in Ireland in 2006] I've never given up on making music. Ireland has inspired me to make a great new album.
If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.
I am the captain of my ship. I take suggestions and listen to what everyone has to say, but the final decision is mine.
[On his father] He is a very jealous father. He isn't gonna show you love, but anybody that gets closer to us than him he would tell them, 'Leave my boys alone!' To tell you the truth, I never have felt close to him. He has always been like a mystery man.
I would like some way to disappear where people don't see me anymore at some point. I don't want to grow old. I never want to look in the mirror and see that.
The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.
In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.
